2011 is Going to be Awesome! Feb 6, 2011
Dear Christine,

I cannot believe January is over!

I have been working with my 2011 Guest Artist on the workshop selections!  And have been working on fine tuning the website for our needs in 2011.

Keith Lo Bue teaching March 11-13th and REGISTRATION NOW OPEN!

Beryl Taylor will teaching April 8-10th.  And have shifted Kelly Kilmer’s date to July 29-31st and Jacqueline Sullivan moved to November 4-6th.
The Workshops I will be opening registration on next will be: Beryl Taylor, Albie Smith and Josie Cirinione.  See below for the Full 2011 Artist Line Up!

The word “Change” has been a big part of my vocabulary since my divorce in 2009.  Over the last 2 years, The Artists’ Nook has evolved from a full service art supplies store with workshops and art shows to now hosting workshops.  This is the main thing that I love doing and that the attendees enjoy – learning and being inspired from the quality instructors that we have.
Upon returning to the work force full-time, I found a great job, got laid off for 7 months which during this time went to school and got certified in Medical Coding.  This January, I started a new job doing Medical Coding.  Yeah!
Now one more big and wonderful change, I am buying my first house on my own!  I will be closing at the end of February.  It is very surreal to me right now!

So you may be asking where are the workshops going to be held in 2011?????
See the Answer below……..

Other news, Christine on The Road, Dayle Doroshow’s France 2012 Workshop……… More info below!

I know that 2011 is going to be Awesome!

Take Care,
Christine Webb

New Workshop Space for 2011

In 2010, we ended the year of workshops with changing the location to my Loveland Studio from The Bellvue Store to make room for the Bellvue Bean Coffee shop.

The workshops in my Loveland Studio have been great!  But knowing that I rent and some day my landlords will want to move into their home, I was not comfortable continuing to host my workshops at my studio with this uncertainty.

Then I received an email from longtime friend/customer Ranea Hasstedt.  She opened a scrapbook store in October at Harmony & Timberline in south Fort Collins.
She is in the location where Treasure Box was. Cheryl with The Treasure Box closed in September so she could be more available for her family.  Cheryl is now offering products online and doing classes at her studio.  You can find out more what Cheryl is up to on her website at: http://treasureboxscrapbooking.com/

So when I went to check out Ranea at Scrap 2 It, I saw her big wonderful workshop space.  An answered prayer!

I will be renting the workshop space at Scrap 2 It for The Artists’ Nook Workshops.

Personal imagery, found objects and other mixed media will be combined with polymer clay to create a pyramid structure that unfolds to reveal a hidden surprise.
Polymer clay techniques include transferring photocopy imagery, carving and antiquing, making and using three dimensional clay pieces

Inside find a book, small sculpture or whatever your imagination dreams up!

A Note from Christine: I saw books created in Dayle’s workshop at Art Continuum many years ago. I remember these beautiful books with polymer clay pages, looking like old paper, loaded with intrigue. I could stop thinking about how beautiful they were! Now is your chance to make yours.

Using polymer clay, beautiful papers, charms, beads and inlaid treasures, you will create a hieroglyphic spell book that has book covers of imitative amber and ivory.

The covers will also feature transfers of photocopy and original imagery, three- dimensional elements such as scarabs and cartouches, and carvings.

The book pages will include thin sheets of polymer papyrus and other designs using metallic powders, spices and herbs!

Come create a magical book filled with wishes, dreams and positive spells!

We will create these figures of polymer clay using unique surface designs of Venetian millefiore and rich embellishments of beads, fibers and your personal treasures.
Hiding places will be explored as part of the design.

Frank Stanley – An Artist with a Cause

Frank Stanley painting 1,000 Cranes

An artist friend of mine, Frank Stanley of Fort Collins strongly believes is this Japanese Legend.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thousand_origami_cranes

Make 1,000 Origami Cranes and you will be granted a wish from a crane such as a long life or recovery of an illness.

Frank’s wife Krista was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and not like that news was not bad enough. They found out that their health insurance premiums that they were paying to their employer was not being paid to the insurance company. The employer was keeping that money.

So, they had no insurance coverage.

Krista is now cancer free but they are left with large medical bills.

What started out as a wish for recovery for his wife, Frank’s cranes are his way to create a way to pay the medical bills.

You can read more of Krista’s story and see Frank’s wonderful cranes on Frank’s website at:
http://www.playgroundartstudios.com/

Also, here is a link to a 9 News of this story:
http://www.9news.com/video/default.aspx?bctid=71938806001

And read their article Here
9 News Article of the Stanley Family

I have to tell you how humble Frank is. He called me because he was looking for gallery space to do a show. He never mentioned any of this to me. And I even asked how things were in his life.

I told Frank to keep me posted when the show will be. He sent me an email simply saying “more Cranes up on my website”.

Liking Frank’s Art, I went and checked out his website where I found Krista’s story.

Please Forward this Email to all you know.

Frank & Krista’s story is an endearing one of hope, faith and love.

Christine Webb
