This workshop taken with From The Land will give you a fuller understanding of Cas' main processes.
An experimental workshop to explore the character and qualities of paper and other found material as a surface for working. A focus on stitching as an extension of mark making and drawing, and various means of attaching and joining.
Some of the methods will be Japanese in origin. An introduction to momigami , Japanese crinkled papers. The pieces resulting from this creative exploration could be used as a starting point for collage, stitching, 3-D or sculptural work.
What Students will achieve:
An understanding of the qualities of found paper as a means to aid design work and for direct use in textiles.
Creative exploration which could be used as a starting point student’ own practice for textile based work and mixed media, collage, stitching, 3-D, books or sculptural work.
Student preparation:
As you work through the course you may chose to make reference to the environment and/or work from personal images, ideas and other materials you have collected for inspiration. Bring images for inspiration and one or two images of previous work.
Plan for the day:
Introduction to the course. Paper as a textile.
Mark making on paper and an introduction to Momigami textile papers. Altering texture and surface. Using stitch, you can use hand or machine stitch. Lace paper napkins.
We will close with a review looking at ways of working with the papers as textiles. (joining pieces together, patchwork, stitch as a mark, building towards your own developments.
*If you have dietary restrictions, you are welcome to bring your lunch. There is a refrigerator and microwave on the premises.
