Learn to Etch Copper, Plus work with the cutting edge jewelry material Faux Bone in this workshop!

Do something good for the environment…reduce your carbon footprint…find your way…know what time it is!

In this workshop you will complete a project that not only is a beautiful pendant, but also a functioning compass and sundial.

When closed it appears to be an ordinary etched-copper pendant – the triangle dangling from the bottom will serve as part of the sundial.

Open the cover to reveal the compass and sundial face plate (made of Faux Bone™). The compass can be removed and the copper triangle put in place to serve as the gnomon (“shadow caster”) for the sundial.

Carbon credits awarded upon successful completion of the project.

*If you have dietary restrictions, you are welcome to bring your lunch. There is a refrigerator and microwave on the premises.

Supply List :
Sheet copper (24 gauge) approx. 4 inches x 4 inches…it wouldn’t hurt to have a bit extra just in case…

Copper wire in 16 and 20 gauges. If you can’t find them at your local hardware supplier, I suggest www.HomeAndBeyond.com. Their stock numbers are as follows:
16 gauge copper wire: Anchor Wire #123127 25' 16GA COP Wire ($2.72)
20 gauge copper wire: Anchor Wire #123128 50' 20GA COP Wire ($2.55)

I will supply everything else needed to complete the project.

Tools List:
Jeweler’s saw and #1 or #2 blades

Small hammer suitable for flattening and riveting 16 gauge copper wire

Round nose pliers

Needle nose pliers (available at hardware stores)

Wire cutters – I recommend the inexpensive hardware store variety for use with the 16 gauge copper wire

A file or two – these should be the woodworking type (available at hardware stores) rather than fine jewelry files

Small portable table vise (the type that clamps onto a table.the 3 inch variety is fine and available at Home Depot or Lowes)

Optional: A Dremel or other rotary tool with grinding or sanding attachments. This will speed up the shaping of the Faux Bone™.
